Background of the Study
Examination malpractice is a significant problem in Nigerian secondary schools, undermining academic integrity and affecting the quality of education (Olowu & Ibrahim, 2025). In Bauchi Local Government Area, Bauchi State, the prevalence of cheating during examinations is a serious concern, leading to calls for reform in how assessments are conducted. One potential solution is the use of digital examination systems, which can help reduce malpractice by making the examination process more secure, transparent, and efficient.
Digital examination systems use technology to conduct, grade, and monitor exams, providing mechanisms to prevent cheating and ensuring that students are assessed fairly (Musa & Yusuff, 2023). These systems can include features such as secure logins, time constraints, randomized questions, and plagiarism detection tools, all of which can make it more difficult for students to engage in dishonest practices. This study will explore the role of digital examination systems in reducing examination malpractice in secondary schools in Bauchi Local Government Area.
Statement of the Problem
Examination malpractice remains rampant in secondary schools in Bauchi Local Government Area, despite various efforts to curb it. Traditional examination methods have proven to be ineffective in preventing malpractice. This study seeks to explore how digital examination systems can help reduce instances of malpractice by providing more secure, efficient, and transparent means of assessment.
